Reeti

Born and raised in the chaotic city of Kolkata, India, Reeti C is now based in the south of England. Having grown up within the intensity of a city of over sixteen million people, she is drawn to landscapes that offer space for reflection — places that allow her to think, breathe, and experience the humbling sensation of feeling small within the vastness of nature. This search led her to pursue an MFA at West Dean College, in the outskirts of Chichester.

Reeti’s practice is rooted in an ongoing pursuit of the sublime. Her work emerges from moments of quiet contemplation, often triggered by perceptual disorientation and shifting awareness. Working primarily with charcoal, she explores the immersive and emotive experience of landscape, particularly in relation to altered states of consciousness, using drawing as a means to understand and unpack personal experiences of transcendence.

Process is central to her practice. Through layering, systematising, repetition, and distortion across different media, Reeti emphasises duration and accumulation as ways of thinking through making. Her works invite viewers to engage slowly, drawing attention to sensations of spatial expansion, infinity, and disorientation, while questioning the individual’s relationship to what exists beyond perceptual and physical limits. Balancing control with intuition, she combines mechanical, methodical techniques with gestural mark-making. Working at close range and in meticulous detail, her drawings create visual environments that oscillate between precision and release, structure and uncertainty.
