Heather's practice involves the layering of marks and materials to convey the sense of a felt relationship with landscape that surfaces through fragments of memory: the enmeshed branches of trees, the gentle curves of the downs and the complex tangle of roots below ground.
She believes that the imprint of past lives remains in the landscape. We are able to access them through found objects and residual pockets of energy enabling connections to be made in the present moment.
She is inspired by Japanese art and the belief that beauty exists in every stage of the life cycle of beings - be they living or inanimate. This too informs the pieces she creates.
